Macland’s Progress: “Friends and Family Day”—April 2, 2017

On Sunday, April 2, 2017, Macland Road will host “Friends and Family Day,” a special occasion for inviting, welcoming, and encouraging visitors to our assembly. There are invitation cards in the lobby now, so please take as many of these cards as you can distribute to friends, family, neighbors, and acquaintances.

At Macland Road, we utilize a number of means of evangelism. Our corporate worship assembly, while not designed especially for visitors, is undoubtedly a great evangelistic tool. Here is why it is valuable for non-Christians to visit our assemblies on April 2 (or any other time we assemble). Whenever visitors come to our assembly, we give them at least these blessings:

  • An opportunity to witness Christians lovingly, humbly, and sincerely praising God. “[T]rue worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24-25).
  • An opportunity to witness worship that is according to the pattern of the New Testament. “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17).
  • An opportunity to hear about God and how to be saved. Visitors can learn from “the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15).
  • An opportunity to be encouraged by the word of God. “[T]hrough the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4).
  • An opportunity to visit with and get to know the most loving people in the world. Those of us at Macland want visitors to see the love of Christ through our behavior. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

The sermons on April 2 (AM and PM) will be geared especially toward visitors. I will preach from passages that will make honest seekers of God want to come back and learn more from the Bible. Members of the congregation will be especially focused on welcoming unfamiliar folks and trying to schedule Bible studies with them. We will have a special meal in honor of our visitors.

April 2, 2017 will be a great day in the history of the Macland Road church. Make sure to be a part of it, and bring someone with you! Also, please be praying for the success of this event.
